Routes scrutinised after profits fall
Sharp falls in profit at easyJet and Flybe will see both airlines maximise profitable routes - but don't raise major concerns over the future of routes to and from the Island.
That verdict from Island pressure group TravelWatch, whose aviation spokesman Terry Liddiard has analysed the firms' recently-announced financial results.
Flybe's profits halved in the first six months of the year, compared to the same period in 2015, from £36.8 million to £13.4 m.
easyJet's profits tumbled in the year to September 2016 by 28% to £495 million - despite a rise in passenger numbers.
Sterling's weakness, the impact of terror attacks on air travel and air traffic control strikes hit performance.
