A Manx-owned chemical tanker seized by Somalian pirates has been freed, after a multi-million dollar ransom was paid.
The MT Bow Asir is owned by Star Tankers Ltd, a company registered in St George's Court in Upper Church Street, Douglas.
It was taken over three weeks ago by a group of up to 18 pirates off the coast of Somalia.
The 23,000 tonne Bow Asir has a crew of 27 and is managed by Norway's Salhus Shipping.
A spokesman for Salhus says the vessel has been released, but has given no further details.
However, pirate sources in Somalia say they were paid $2.4 million in ransom money and have released the vessel.
