PSP work begins

The new body responsible for running the majority of the Isle of Man's public service pension schemes has held its first meeting.

The Public Sector Pensions Authority, created under legislation which came into effect last month, takes on work previously spread across three separate government authorities.

The authority is responsible for the administration and management of all the schemes, except for the Isle of Man Post Office and the Local Government Scheme, which continue to be separately run and funded.

The authority is made up of an independent chair with legal or appropriate experience, a vice-chair who is the chairman of the Civil Service Commission, and three other members who represent the unions and public sector workers.

The Council of Ministers has made the following appointments:

Jeremy Carter LLB VOJ (Hons) – Chair
Alf Cannan MHK – Vice Chair
Dudley Butt MLC – representing employer interests
Eric Holmes – Trades Council nominee representing public sector employees’ interests
Andrew Shipley – union nominee representing public sector employees’ interests

The Authority’s staff comprise the former members of the Pensions Division of the Office of Human Resources and they continue to be based at Goldie House in Douglas.
