Start Up team boosted by new members

The Department of Economic Development has appointed two new advisors from the private sector to its Small Business Start Up team.

Andrew Simpson and Dennis Rogers will increase the membership to six people, whose role is to mentor and assist news businesses in their early years.

Andrew's background is in marketing, retail and senior management and he has founded his own company in the United.

Dennis specialises in property management and business start-up, launching a number of businesses over the past 20 years.

The mentoring scheme is in its 15th year and to date has trained more than 800 budding entrepreneurs and financially assisted 480 businesses.

Last year, the scheme helped 68 local firms to get off the ground, with businesses ranging from psychologists, car repair garages and dog groomers to photographers and marketing consultants.

Political member for the DED Clare Christian says the Small Business Start Up scheme is one of the most successful in the department and, encouragingly, is currently experiencing an exceptionally busy period.
