10 active cases of Covid-19 on the Island

Five detected in the last 24 hours

Five cases of Covid-19 have been detected on the Isle of Man in the last 24 hours.

They all originate from the IM8 postcode area.

The five people affected are from two households and are all self-isolating.

It brings the total number of active cases of Coronavirus to 10.

Of the five new cases three are linked and two are under investigation.

One person, who has the virus, is in the Intensive Care Unit at Noble’s Hospital - government has confirmed the individual is not one of the new cases detected in the last 24 hours. 

Earlier today the head teacher of Bunscoill Rhumsaa confirmed one of the new cases was detected within their school.

Director of Public Health Dr Henrietta Ewart said: "We are exploring any possibility of onward transmission and the contact tracing team are working to build the full picture.

"Despite lifting legal restrictions on Monday the global pandemic is still happening around us and we need to maintain the highest levels of vigilance."
