£244k cost of criminal compensation

A scheme which provides compensation to victims of violent crimes on the Island paid out £244,000 last year.

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme makes awards to people who’ve been hurt during a violent incident.

A panel which considers awards met 11 times last year and heard 66 applications – approving 24, rejecting nine and having 43 outstanding at the end of the year.

The full report on the scheme’s work over the last twelve months was laid before Tynwald this week.
