49 jobs to go as Flybe announces closures of Isle of Man base

It's been confirmed that Flybe will close its Isle of Man base at the end of next March - with the loss of all bar two of the locally-based staff.

The move comes as the company announced it was reviewing its whole network with a view to making further cost reductions . . with 500 expected redundancies.

In a statement this afternoon, the company says a review of the number of Flybe bases to remove surplus aircraft capacity and improve crew use has determined that Flybe will no longer have a requirement to base aircraft on the Isle of Man. It's expected 49 of their 51 employees here will lose their jobs.

The company says it remains committed to delivering services throughout the UK and to and from the Isle of Man and can reassure its passengers that they can continue to book with confidence.

Chief Executive Officer Saad Hammad has stated, "It is a matter of great regret that many valued and hard-working colleagues will leave the company and that we are having to close our base on the Isle of Man. The proposed redundancy process will be done fairly in order to deliver an equitable outcome for all employees."
