Equally rickety picture for HGVs
There's been a sharp rise in the number of taxis in the Island failing safety tests.
Concerns have been raised by the body which regulates vehicles used by the travelling public, including coaches and mini buses, the Road Transport Licensing Committee (RTLC).
The panel's annual report to Tynwald says there were 63 failures in 2015/16, almost double the figure for the year before.
Forty operators were required to explain their maintenance schedules.
It's an equally worrying picture for HGVs, with up to 50% thought to be not roadworthy at any one time, despite having to undergo annual MOT-style tests.
RTLC chairman Brendan O'Friel says he's especially concerned about standards of vehicles used by members of the public.
