Assault, theft and drugs possession land man in prison

Offences committed over several months

A man’s been jailed for seven-and-a-half months after admitted shoplifting, possessing drugs, assaulting his ex-girlfriend and handling stolen goods.

Twenty-three-year-old Charlton Andrew Gary Watterson appeared for sentencing before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes, after admitting six charges at an earlier hearing.

Watterson, of Empire Terrace in Douglas, stole wine from two different shops in Douglas, in November last year and January this year.

The court heard he’d allowed himself to be driven in a car he knew was stolen and was caught in possession of three illegal pills on 23 October.

Mrs Hughes heard Watterson had been asked to hold on to £1,500-worth of stolen makeup, which had been taken from an Onchan beauty salon during a burglary.

And on 8 February he’d punched his former partner in the face, causing actual bodily harm and injuries which required hospital treatment.

Watterson, described in court as an alcoholic, was sent to prison for a total of 30 weeks, and Mrs Hughes ordered him to pay compensation of £750 to the beauty salon.

He was also banned from driving for 12 months and banned from entering on-licensed premises for a year.
