Avoid forests and glens during severe weather, DEFA says

Stormy weather expected to hit over the next few days

Residents are being advised to avoid the Island's forests and glens during predicted stormy weather over the next two days.

An all-Island yellow warning for several gales is in force from 4pm today until 2am on Thursday (17 February).

Meanwhile, an amber warning for severe weather is scheduled for between 11am and 4pm on Friday (18 February).

DEFA says risks aren't just during windy periods but around trees which are uprooted, broken or balanced against other trees and could fall at anytime.

The department says this advice may cause inconvenience to some, but its priority is to keep members of the public safe.

After Monday, 21 February, residents are being encouraged to report any tree issues on public estates by contacting forestry@gov.im, calling 695 701 or contacting DEFA on Facebook.
