38-year-old told it was 'an expensive lesson'
A Glen Maye man has been banned from the road after crashing his car whilst drink driving.
Christian Wheeler, of Glen Close, called 999 just after 4pm on 27 April to report the incident which happened near to the Round Table.
When emergency services found him 30 minutes later, on Glen Road in Colby, they noted his silver Renault Clio had suffered extensive damage.
Wheeler failed a roadside breath test and was arrested – later tests showed he was more than one and a half times over the legal limit.
During police interview the 38-year-old told officers he’d been ‘out for a drive’ but misjudged a turning – he admitted to drinking a bottle of wine the previous evening.
At Douglas Courthouse Wheeler admitted drink driving with his advocate telling the court: “He has learnt his lesson.”
Disqualifying him from driving for two years, and fining him £1,000, Magistrates described it as ‘an expensive lesson’ adding: “The advice is – if you’re going to drive, never drink.”
Wheeler was also ordered to pay £125 in prosecution costs.
