Ban for driver who was 0.8mcg over drug drive limit

21-year-old told it was an 'expensive mistake'

A Douglas man has been banned from the road for two years after being caught drug driving.

Cole Michael Dodd, of Bridge Road, was 0.8 micrograms over the limit for cannabis on 2 October last year.

Police had stopped the 21-year-old on New Castletown Road at 6.35pm – they smelt cannabis and conducted a drug wipe test; Dodd admitted he’d used the drug the evening before.

At Douglas Courthouse Dodd’s advocate told the court it was a ‘classic case’ of his client believing he was fit to drive adding: “It’s unfortunate it’s come to this but it’s a lesson learnt.”

Magistrates fined Dodd £1,000, and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £125, telling him: “You made a mistake that you will learn from but it will be an expensive mistake for you.”

Dodd will remain disqualified from driving until he’s taken and passed an extended driving test.
