It's Bar Wars on Douglas Prom

In-tents rivalry brewing in capital

Away from the heat of the racing, a new class of competition has opened up for TT 2018.

This year will see two beer tents fighting it out for fan favour half a mile apart on Douglas Promenade.

There was controversy last year when Douglas Council awarded use of its Bottleneck Car Park site to Rob Storey's brewery Hooded Ram, supplanting Bushy's from the site after two decades.

But Bushy's ultimately came back bigger, unveiling plans for a 4,000-capacity 'TT Village' in the Villa Marina Gardens focusing on local brands and entertainment.

Hooded Ram's 'Festival' tent, meanwhile, has promised big name international headline acts, and an innovative self-service bar setup for up to 2,800 revellers.

Between them, the tents expect to pour in excess of half a million pints.

Both are opening their doors this afternoon, and both will be screening tonight's UEFA Champion's League Final.

Speaking when the new site was announced, Bushy's boss Martin Brunnschweiler said it would be a new twist on an old favourite.
