'Biodiversity should be integral to the planning process'

DEFA minister exploring possiblilities to factor in wildlife-friendly concept

Net Biodiversity Gain is being considered as part of a review to planning legislation, according to the environment minister.

Geoffrey Boot made the in response to the question from Bill Henderson MLC on the concept, which ensures any wildlife loss as a result of a development is replaced and enhanced elsewhere.  

The Island's first strategy on biodiversity devised 4 years ago, aims to integrate biodiversity value into national and local development by 2020.

Work is said to be ongoing in this area with departmental policy, the Climate Change Bill, and the Planning Bill as possible avenues for the idea:
