'REIMAGINING our Biosphere' aims to engage people with nature

An exhibition will go on display this week showcasing the results of a 'groundbreaking' game produced on the Island.

The 2023/4 Biosphere Artist in Residence designed 'REIMAGINING our Biosphere' in collaboration with the Manx Wildlife Trust and UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man.

It was a project supported by the Isle of Man Arts Council.

The aim of the ‘Biosphere Game’ is to help 'collectively reimagine our future in the Isle of Man if we placed nature at the heart of everything and took into account the whole human and ecological system that we are part of'.

Since the project’s launch, in May this year, Ali Hodgson has played it with hundreds of people and the project has gained international attention.

She told Manx Radio she believes games are a really great way to engage with complex subject matter:

Graham Makepeace-Warne, MWT Head of Engagement, said: “Collaborative projects like the UNESCO biosphere artist in residence program enhances Manx Wildlife Trust's engagement efforts by providing unique, creative perspectives that help connect people more deeply with nature.

"By integrating art into our wider conservation work, we reach new audiences and inspire a broader appreciation for the Island's natural beauty and biodiversity.”

If you want to see the game, and the associated results, it will be on display at the Santander Work Café in Douglas all this week (16 - 20 September).

A public drop-in 'REIMAGINING our Biosphere' game session will also be held between 2pm and 5pm on Wednesday.
