Bishop writes to Chief Minister over refugees

Urges government to do more to help

The Island's lord bishop has written to the chief minister calling for the government to do its bit to help refugees fleeing conflict in North Africa.

In his letter, Bishop Robert Paterson says the Isle of Man might be able to take in some of the thousands of people displaced by war in countries such as Syria.

He says although the Island follows UK immigration policy, he says we should welcome those who’ve been driven from their homes.

And he asks the government to urge the UK to welcome more refugees and to find more pace here on the Island to house them.
