Police working with organisers
A protest is planned in Douglas today (9 June), to raise awareness of the international Black Lives Matter campaign.
Tens of thousands have been demonstrating across the United States and in the UK, following the the death of George Floyd in police custody.
In the Isle of Man the Chief Constable Gary Roberts says the police are working alongside organisers to make sure the event is carried out safely.
And he says he understands the motivations behind the protest:
The demonstration is due to start on Douglas promenade opposite the Villa Marina from 12pm.
An anti-racism demonstration in Bristol last weekend saw protesters tear down a statue of a slaver Edward Colston.
The Island was a port of call for ships engaged in the transatlantic slave trade, with Manx mariners and merchants involved.
