Can you help Dumfries Museum?

Search for information on man interned on IOM during war

Could you help Dumfries Museum in their search for photographs or articles connected with a former German diplomat interned on the Island?

Dr Werner Kissling left the German Diplomatic Service in response to the rise of the Nazis and was wanted by the German secret police as a traitor.

He was interned on the Isle of Man during the war - but released in 1942.

He settled in Dumfries in the 1960s and dedicated much of his life to documenting local crafts and buildings in Scotland and Yorkshire.

The museum has recently acquired a suitcase of his personal items to add to their collection of photos and artifacts associated with Dr Kissling's life and work - but are keen to find more.

Researcher Kirsty Kernohan says they're interested in anything from film footage to memories from people who may have met him.

If you think you have anything of interest, you can ring Kirsty on 01387 253374 or email kirsty.kernohan@dumgal.gov.uk.
