Indecent child image case 'largest ever'

Haul of 900,000 images 'unprecedented' in UK

The Isle of Man Constabulary says the investigation of a Douglas man for the possession and distribution of indecent images of children was the largest inquiry of its kind anywhere in the UK.

Forty-five year old Martin Andrew Cleator from Ballaquark was yesterday (15 May) sentenced to two years in prison for downloading more than 900,000 images of child sex abuse via the internet.

Police say a high level of technical sophistication was involved in detecting the offences, along with the help of partners including the National Crime Agency.

The Constabulary insists potential offenders will continue to be targeted for such crimes, no matter the scale.
