Chamber queries government data

Population projections "out of date"

Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce is questioning the accuracy of data being used by the government to shape the Island's future.

According to the chamber, population projections used in the Draft Strategic Plan are out of date.

One of the plan's key aims is to try and predict the number of houses which will be required in future, which then influences subsequent planning decisions.

The Chamber of Commerce says it's the assumptions about future immigration which are the cause for most concern.

It says the predictions about the ages of those coming in are just as important as the number of them.

The chamber has asked for the figures to be reassessed, but says the strategic plan inspector has refused to do this.

It's pledging to continue to lobby government about the issue.
