Smoking rates continuing to decline
The Isle of Man has an opportunity to see the end of smoking cigarettes within the current generation.
Director of Public Health and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Matt Tyrer says smoking rates are continuing to decline - falling from 10% of the population in 2022 to around seven percent in 2024.
Dr. Tyrer said government-led initiatives such as the 'Stoptober' campaign, are helping people stop smoking.
He believes there is a genuine desire among most smokers to kick the habit:
