Happened one month into relationship
A man who attacked his girlfriend a month into their relationship has been told his actions would have terrified his victim in her own home.
Twenty-four-year-old Edward Robert James McBride, of Berry Woods Grove in Douglas, appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
He’d pleaded guilty to breaching a licensing ban and two charges of criminal damage.
After a trial he was also convicted of criminal damage and assault.
Prosecution advocate James Robinson told the court McBride met the woman in October 2019 and they moved in with each other.
On 19 November, however, he became jealous and suspicious – soon turning violent and grabbing his victim by the neck a number of times.
He also put her in a headlock and grabbed her hair, punching holes in walls and doors, as well as smashing her phone.
Magistrates ordered him to do 200 hours community service, pay his victim £250 in compensation and pay £500 towards prosecution costs.
