Community service for Ramsey man who was selling cannabis to friends

High bailiff tells 20-year-old: "I hope you've learnt your lesson'

A Ramsey man has been ordered to carry out unpaid work after being caught with cannabis he was intending to sell to his friends.

Ethan Martin Reginald Slade, of Albion Terrace, admitted possessing the class B substance with intent to supply and unlawful possession.

Police on patrol in the northern town, on 9 April last year, came across the 20-year-old, and others, in a shed at his home address.

A subsequent search of the area recovered more than 300 grams of cannabis which was valued at more than £4,500.

During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse Slade’s probation officer told the court he was providing the drug to his peer group adding he had a ‘high level of regret and remorse’.

Slade, who was said to be a daily user of the drug at the time, told the officer: "This experience has taught me a lot about life. I don’t ever want to appear in court again."

"I would ask the court to treat this as a silly mistake by a silly young lad." – David Clegg (Advocate)

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes imposed a combination order of 100 hours of community service and 12 months’ probation supervision.

Ordering Slade to pay prosecution costs of £125 she told him: “Potentially your actions could have been far more serious. I hope that you’ve learnt your lesson.”
