Company offering to retrieve students' belongings

Manxport Removals can transport possessions

With Covid-19 restrictions in place, many Manx university students raced to get home before the borders were closed, and were forced to leave most of their belongings behind.

Isle of Man Government is looking at ways to assist - Education Minister Dr Alex Allinson MHK previously said "we fully understand the concerns and frustration of our students who are separated from their belongings, and ask anyone in this position to get in touch so we can assess the extent of the problem and consider what help can be provided."

Manx Radio has been speaking to a number of people who find themselves in that scenario:

A company called Manxport Removals is one organisation looking to help.

Under normal circumstances, it provides a transport service to bring items to and from the Island - especially things like furniture.

Despite the borders being closed and social distancing rules in place, it's been able to keep operating under Covid-19 restrictions by transporting belongings in containers, received by staff at the other end of the boat trip.

In a post on social media, it asked students to get in touch to see if the company could help.
