Plan is to treat around 16,000 cubic metres of sedimentÂ
Planning consent is being sought for a major project to transport sediment from the Peel silt lagoon to Cross Vein Mine on the outskirts of Foxdale.
The DoI says the silt would then be treated on site, after which it would be used as part of remediation work around the area, including the placement of a capping layer to reducer surface run-off and leaching of underlying heavy metal impacted soils.
As part of the development a settlement pond would be constructed, along with a temporary treatment plant, works access tracks, drainage ditches, fencing and landscaping works.
The plan is to treat around 16,000 cubic metres of sediment currently stored in the lagoon.
The remediation works would also address mining spoil known as 'The Deads', which was previously used for metal ore processing.
A capping layer would prevent the potential leakage of toxic materials.
The dredged sediment would be transported from the Peel silt lagoon within a three-month period between August and October next year.
The work would involve around 60 two-way movements of HGV vehicles per day.
