Cost of animal welfare 'worth the expense'

Report could lead to new Animal Welfare Act

The cost of improving the health and wellbeing of Island animals is worth the additional expense, according to the ManxSPCA.

Proposals to bring Manx law into line with the UK were laid out in a report before Tynwald yesterday (Tues 15).

There are 12 recommendations in the legislation to implement an Animal Welfare Act, something the Island currently does not have.

Among the proposals is the introduction of a 24/7 dog warden service, and the creation of a 'public register of offenders' by the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.
