Courthouse deal moves closer

DOI gives approval

Ramsey Commissioners’ purchase of the town courthouse has moved a step closer.

The local authority has received approval from the Department of Infrastructure allowing them to buy the building and grounds from the Department of Home Affairs.

It will pay a fee of £80,000 pounds, and lease the Ramsey Town Hall police office to the DHA for 25 years, charging a 'nominal' rate of £1 a year.

A deal for the landmark building was approved in principle in April.

The commissioners want it retained in public ownership.
