Courts not fixed penalties for serious road offences

Motoring misdemeanours at the lower end of the scale will soon be dealt with differently.

So says the politician who brought revised plans to Tynwald on Tuesday which will lead to fixed penalty fines being issued for minor offences.

They include parking illegally at night and recently qualified drivers exceeding a set speed.

The proposals aim to reduce costs and bureaucracy.

However, Ramsey MHK Leonard Singer, a member of the infrastructure department, says serious breaches will still be dealt with by courts.
