Data reveals challenges for IoM Constabulary

Isle of Man In Numbers collates crime figures

The latest government figures offer a snapshot view of the Constabulary's success in tackling crime.

Isle of Man in Numbers 2017 includes a breakdown of detection rates by crime category, and the prison population by age, offence and length of sentence.

In 2016, exactly half of all 2,185 crimes recorded in the Island were detected.

That includes two-thirds of offences against the person, but fewer than a quarter of burglaries.  

There are huge fluctuations in drug seizures from year to year.

Adam Smith is head of the Economic Affairs Division, which compiled the report.

He says the data can't give an accurate picture of the quantities of drugs circulating:
