DEFA to replace dead trees over next four years after 50% failure rate

Difficult planting conditions and hot weather among reasons for issues at People's Wood

Dead trees in the People's Wood will be replaced over the next four years after around half of those planted failed.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture says the 50 per cent failure rate at the Meary Veg site is higher than the 20 per cent expected.

The hot and dry weather this year, as well as difficult planting conditions, is behind the issues according to the department.

DEFA also says it's disappointed that a tree planted by former Chief Minister Howard Quayle has been vandalised and intends to replace this in the autumn.
