Douglas driver had almost three times legal limit of cocaine in system

35-year-old won't be recalled to prison after admitting offence

A Douglas man has been banned from the road for two years after being caught drug driving.

Jamie Mark Smith, of Central Promenade, had almost three times the legal limit of cocaine in his system when he was stopped by police on 29 October last year.

Officers had searched his car, on Peel Road, just before 10.50pm - they also carried out a drug wipe test which he failed.

At Douglas Courthouse the 35-year-old admitted the offence.

The court was told Smith had been released from prison on licence, after being jailed in 2020 for drug and money laundering offences, but there were no plans to recall him for this offence.

Fining Smith £1,000 High Bailiff Jayne Hughes described his reading as being ‘significantly above the legal limit’.

He will also have to pay prosecution costs of £125 and take and pass an extended driving test.
