Douglas man sent ex-girlfriend 100 'abusive and insulting' messages

22-year-old admits harassment offence

A Douglas man will be sentenced next month after admitting harassing his ex-girlfriend.

Thomas Lee Parsons, of Empress Drive, sent the woman more than 100 ‘abusive and insulting’ messages in less than a month after their relationship ended.

The 22-year-old admitted that his conduct had amounted to harassment, between 25 July and 21 August, at Douglas Courthouse last week.

On Sunday (21 August) Parsons sent the woman multiple messages - one threatened to smash her windows and another said: “I’m going to smash your neck in.”

Later that day he turned up at her home and began throwing stones – the police were called and Parsons was arrested.

Parsons’ advocate told the court his client had spent four days on remand at the Isle of Man Prison waiting for his appearance before magistrates adding: “News flash – he’s in prison and he doesn’t like it!”.

He said Parsons accepted his conduct had amounted to harassment adding: “He’s a young man who, it would seem, needs assistance.”

Describing it as a ‘very serious offence’ Magistrates adjourned sentencing until 6 September; Parsons has been bailed until that date.
