Drink-driving charges dropped

Court told there is insufficient admissable evidence

Two men have escaped prosecution for motoring offences after there wasn't enough evidence to show which of them was driving.

Thirty-six-year-old Adrian Robin Kneen, of Kerroo Coar in Peel, and 34-year-old Barry John Devlin, of Glen Road in Laxey, appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

Mr Kneen faced charges of drink-driving in a dangerous van with no insurance, and aiding and abetting drink-driving while disqualified.

Mr Devlin was said to have driven while over the limit while disqualified with no insurance in a dangerous van, but all those charges have now been dropped.

Prosecutor James Robinson told the court he didn't have enough admissible evidence that could show which of the two was driving in Baldrine on 30 November.

He withdrew the motoring offences against both men.

Mr Kneen still faces one charge of having a knife in public on the same date.

Mrs Hughes granted him bail and he'll appear again on 9 April.
