£2m spent on additional hours
Overtime wages for bus drivers have cost government more than £2 million over the last five years.
The figures were revealed via a Freedom of Information request, shortly before transport staff announced plans for further industrial action.
Drivers had planned to 'work to rule' again in an ongoing dispute over holiday entitlement, meaning none would work beyond their contracted hours.
That's now been postponed, with talks instead continuing between Infrastructure bosses and Unite the Union next week.
The FOI request showed an average of 26,000 overtime hours were carried out on the buses every year since September 2012 - at an average rate of £16.46 per hour.
