Drunken teenaged debt collectors damage door

Seventeen-year-old and accomplice demand money from child

A drunken Douglas teenager, who accompanied a friend to collect a debt, damaged a door, a court’s heard.

Seventeen-year-old Morgan John Ritchie of Derby Road appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Christopher Arrowsmith at Douglas courthouse via live video link.

He pleaded guilty to one count each of using provoking behaviour and criminal damage.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing Ritchie and a friend – who’s too young to be identified – went to an address on Derby Road just after midnight on 27 October.

The duo were both drunk and demanded money from a child living with their family.

The court heard Ritchie had kicked the front door as well as hitting it with a ladder as the family called the police.

Ritchie was bailed in the sum of £500, but mustn’t contact witnesses or return to the address on Derby Road.

Mr Arrowsmith also imposed an 8pm to 7am curfew, and Ritchie is next due to appear in court on 10 December.
