Education department still responsible for children over holidays

Gov't, MSR & Youth and Carer Services unite for summer activity options

Today, schoolchildren around the Island will be hanging up their uniforms for a few weeks as the summer holidays begin.

But, with the closure coming just five weeks after pupils returned to the classroom after the coronavirus lockdown, there's an added concern this year about the loss of learning, and the impact it could have on kids' mental health.

Sports sessions, careers advice, educational activities and LGBTQ support sessions have all been arranged over the coming weeks, as a number of organisations are teaming up in a bid to keep youngsters busy throughout the summer.

Education minister Dr Alex Allinson says its important to cater for the needs of the Island's youth in the aftermath of lockdown:

One of the groups offering activities is Manx Sport and Recreation.

However, it's not just about the kids - MSR will also be putting on sessions for adults.
