Electricity prices going up today

Government freeze lifted

Electricity prices on the Isle of Man are going up today.

The cost will rise from 22 pence to 28 pence per unit as government lifts the freeze that was designed to shield residents and businesses from sharp increases in bills over the winter.

The Island has had some of the lowest electricity prices across the British Isles over the past few months.

Chief Minister Alfred Cannan says they reacted quickly in the face of great uncertainty, and while rises are never welcome, there is a need to be realistic about the level of support government can provide:
