37-year-old acquitted after trial
A Douglas man has been found not guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.
Jackson Joseph Paul was acquitted by a jury, this afternoon (10 September), following a seven-day trial at Douglas Courthouse.
The 37-year-old had denied that his driving had caused the death of Onchan resident Jordan Thomas.
The 29-year-old died on 4 March 2024 after falling from the bonnet of Mr Paul’s BMW, during an incident on Harbour Road, days earlier on 25 February.
The jury of seven – six men and one woman – returned its unanimous verdict just before 1pm.
Jurors also recorded a unanimous not guilty verdict to the lesser charge of causing death by careless driving.
Addressing Mr Paul in the dock Deemster Sandeep Kainth told him: "You have been found not guilty," adding all charges against him were 'formally discharged'.
Closing proceedings Deemster Kainth thanked the jury for their work and addressed members of the public in the public gallery telling them they'd shown 'dignity in the course of the proceedings'.
