Emergency road closure at Cornaa

Burst water main needs fixing

A section of the Port Cornaa Road in Maughold has been closed so a burst water main can be repaired.

It's shut between the ford and the road's junction with Cornaa beach, until 4pm today, then between 9.30am and 3.30pm tomorrow.

The Department of Infrastructure says the closure is in place to make it safe for its staff to fix the pipe, which is made from asbestos cement.

It is in the middle of the road and staff need to operate plant and equipment in the highway.

The DoI adds that it has warned all the affected properties this morning by knocking on doors and putting cards through letterboxes, informing residents of the closure.
