Expert on Friedland Wagner to give a lecture

World War Two internees to return to IoM

A number of famous names were among those interned on the Isle of Man during World War Two - including German composer Richard Wagner's granddaughter.

Friedland Wagner was placed at Rushen Internment Camp - her granddaughter Dagny Beidler and biographer are travelling here to tell her story this weekend.  

Professor Eva Rieger is giving a lecture as part of a festival organised by Rushen Heritage Trust, Culture Vannin and the Isle of Man Arts Council.

Born at the same camp, Professor Rieger is now an expert on Friedland's life.

Friedland's mother was jailed in 1947 for her active support of the Hitler regime -she didn't share that view; wrote an anti-Nazi book and fled to New York.
