Hopes some services could return to RDCH before TT

The deadline for the return of all services to Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital, scheduled for the end of April, has had to be extended.

It's after an inspection found additional work was needed on the building and its underlying structure.

The site was closed in December, and services relocated, to allow for ongoing remedial work following a pest control issue.

The programme of work includes:

  • Environmental assessments and inspections
  • Deep cleaning and decontamination
  • Health and safety improvements
  • Infrastructure upgrades

Manx Care says phase one of the project is underway and should be completed by mid-May, allowing a number of services to return ahead of the TT.

Services back online from then will include the Minor Injuries Unit, bone density scanning, radiology, and blood and outpatient clinics.

However, some services will continue to be delivered from alternative locations while work remains ongoing, and temporary transport will continue to be provided.

Manx Care CEO Teresa Cope says: ‘We know how important RDCH is to the community it serves, and we do not underestimate the impact of ongoing disruption. Our priority has been to maintain patient care safely while carrying out the work needed to future‑proof the building. We will continue to keep people informed as the programme progresses and as services are able to return.’

Health and Social Care Minister Claire Christian says: ‘These works are necessary to ensure that services provided from RDCH are sustainable for the long term. This is not about quick fixes, but about taking responsible decisions now to protect services for the future.’

Infrastructure Minister Tim Crookall says: ‘The Department of Infrastructure is working closely with Manx Care to deliver a robust programme of works at RDCH. This work is focussed on addressing underlying issues and ensuring the building can continue to support healthcare services for many years to come.’

Manx Care says updates will continue to be shared via its website and social media channels as work progresses and services are able to return.
