Over-75s lose out in Treasury move
Over-75s on the Island will lose their free TV licences later this year.
It's after Treasury announced the cost to the taxpayer could no longer be justified.
Ending the benefit was approved universally by Tynwald as part of the February 2015 budget.
Since 2002, those aged 75 or over have enjoyed a free TV licence paid for by the government.
Fom September 1st this year, however, that will all change.
Treasury says the £700,000 bill - footed by the taxpayer - is no longer affordable.
Pensioners who rely on income support have been spared the change, though. They'll be entitled to a free TV licence paid for through an existing social security scheme.
Anyone whose licence is due to be renewed in September will be issued with a renewal notice by the BBC later this year.
