Ministers make pledge during public meeting over issue
Government has committed to look at options to open up Sulby Claddagh for overnight camping for as much of the season as possible.
That includes reopening overnight camping at the site for the TT period and potentially more of the remainder of the season.
That was the pledge made by DEFA Minister, Clare Barber and Ayre & Michael MHK's Alfred Cannan and Tim Johnston at a public meeting held at the Sulby Glen Hotel last night (1 March).
There's been public backlash since government announced overnight camping at the site would be removed in 2023 so a condemned toilet block can be demolished and a consultation carried out on the location's future.
Mrs Barber says it was good to have a chance to hear residents' concerns over the matter:
The proprietor of the Ginger Hall Hotel, Ben Sowrey, who previously warned he would lose thousands of pounds in revenue if the sight remained closed off during TT, posted his reaction on social media after the meeting
Speaking to Manx Radio after the event, Mr Sowrey says a 'quick-fix' is needed to get the site open this season:
