Government to help farmers after massive loss of livestock

The government is going to provide help for those farmers who have suffered devastating loss of livestock in the recent heavy snow.

This was confirmed by Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne in Tynwald this morning.

He announced latest figures show over 450 dead cattle and calves and over 7,500 sheep and lambs had been collected from the hills and fields.

Replacement livestock costs are expected to be in the region of £1 million . . . with a three quarters of a million pound loss to farm incomes.

But he said his department was committed to providing whatever help it could
