GP 'champion' to improve ME services

Real progress being made on improving services

The GP tasked with improving services to people on the Island with ME or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, says real progress is being made.

Dr Helen Greig was appointed GP 'champion' for the condition  earlier this year, after a campaign by the local ME support group.

Around 350 Island residents suffer with chronic fatigue, but some have waited for years for a diagnosis, referral and therapy - and there is no Island-based ME specialist in the health service.

Dr Greig's appointment has seen her share best practice with other GPs and improve understanding of the condition.

She says a few simple measures have made a real difference:

An ME specialist from the UK Dr Charles Shepherd will give a presentation to sufferers and their familes next Wednesday (16 Sept).

It's at Onchan Methodist Church on Main Road in Onchan at 1pm.
