Historic company to be wound up

One of the Island’s most historic companies is to be wound up after 100 years.

The Ramsey Steamship Company is facing a pension bill of around a million pounds, which means it’ll be left with little working capital to continue trading.

The firm currently has two ships – the Ben Varrey and Ben Maye – and has been operating in the Irish Sea since 1913.

A spokesman says it’s hoped parts of the business, headquartered in Parliament Street in Ramsey, might be sold.
