Storm topples Loaghtan Ram on Douglas Head

A landmark outdoor sculpture has disappeared from its prominent position on Douglas Head - a victim of the yesterday's storm.

The giant Loaghtan Ram, constructed from natural materials on a steel structure, has been visible from around the capital, and to visitors arriving by sea, since May.

Although the iconic installation was due to be removed before winter, last night's winds tore up its cable moorings - leaving the ram to topple on its side.

The Loaghtan Ram, commissioned by the Isle of Man Arts Council, proved a popular draw for visitors when it stood on the Mountain Road.

Artist Darren Jackson who also created the Mannifest centrepiece  and Christmas ice sculptures in Douglas town centre, says there's scope for an Island-wide attraction:
