Founder of Argid hoping IoM will be 'test bed' for concept

One of the UK’s first ‘altruistic lenders’ says it’s aiming to improve the lives of the ‘under-banked and under-served’ on the Isle of Man.

Argid has been launched here – the peer-to-peer lending company describes itself as an alternative to pay day lending.

It’s been inspired by the 2016 Ken Loach film ‘I, Daniel Blake’ which told the story of a man who was denied benefits despite being declared unfit to work.

Founder Saqhib Ali says at a time when cost-of-living is high he’s hopeful it will support the financially vulnerable:
