Inflation falls slightly

The annual rate of inflation in the Island fell slightly last month according to figures released today.

Statistics from Treasury show the retail prices index (RPI) stood at 2.3% in October compared to 2.4% the month before.

It's the lowest monthly inflation figure so far this year.

There were falls of more than 2% in the leisure goods, fares and travel  categories in October.

Elsewhere, prices rose in clothing and food - the latter up by 1.8% last month.

Excluding housing costs, the annual inflation rate shown by the consumer prices index also decreased last month, from 2.3% in September to 2.1%.
