Island footpaths increasingly 'impassable'

Vegetation growth causes concerns

Concerns have been raised about the deterioration of the Isle of Man's footpaths.

The Manx Footpaths Conservation Group says public rights of way, including the Raad Ny Foillan, are becoming impassable due to overgrown vegetation.

Whilst the Department of Infrastructure maintains footpaths it has no duty to inspect them so relies on reports from walkers.

David Leiserach from the group says overgrown paths may be linked to reduced footfall over the last year:

Michael George owns the Welbeck Hotel and says some of his guests have been left disappointed by the coastal path.

He thinks government should adjust its focus:

Manx Radio has contacted the Department of Infrastructure for comment.
